The local Cape Town football team, Ajax Cape Town have been given the go ahead to use the Cape Town stadium for the 2010-2011 season and have so far remained undefeated there winning two of their games 2 -0 and drawing 1 – 1.

Here we can see the Ajax team before a game at the stadium.

Fifa have released the new World Rankings now that South Africa 2010 has finished;

1. Spain (moved up 1 place)
2. Netherlands (moved up 2 places)
3. Brazil (dropped 2 places)
4. Germany (moved up 2 places)
5. Argentina (moved up 2 places)
6. Uruguay (moved up 10 places)
7. England (moved up 1 place)
8. Portugal (dropped 5 places)
9. Egypt (moved up 3 places)
10. Chile (moved up 8 places)

Italy have dropped 6 places and are now 11th whilst the French are now 21st meaning they dropped 12 places.

Spain 1 – 0 Netherlands

World Cup Finals Stadium

The final was contested between Spain andthe Netherlands at Soccer city stadium in Johannesburg on July 11th with the Spanish being victorious.

Spain Victorious

The game went into extra time as no team could find a way through the defences as the game became very physical resulting in 11 yellow cards and one red card (after a second yellow). The goal came in the 116th minute with a beautiful strike by Andres Iniesta (who was also voted the man of the match).

Both teams often regarded as the best in the world had never lifted the coveted World Cup with the dutch coming the closest on two occasions in 1974 and 1978 loosing in the final both times.

World Cup Final Weekend

Cape Town is gearing up for two of the biggest parties ever held in Cape Town considering there are no matches to be played in the city this weekend. The bars and clubs in town and in and around the Waterfront have stocked up for0 the 3rd and 4th place play off and the final to be held in Soccer City on Sunday 11th.

The Hyundai tent opens on Saturday and Sunday at 5pm
The MTN tent opens at 6pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday
The Dubliner bar opens at noon on Saturday and Sunday
The Waterfron Lookout opens at 2pm

The Final;

The final of Spain V Netherlands promises to be a fast paced juicey football game by two of Europes hottest footballing countries. Neither country has won the World Cup previously so this match will be a tough battle as neither would want this chance to slip through their fingers.

This will also be the first time the World Cup has been won by a European country outside of Europe and also the first time of back to back European winners, as the last World Cup was won by Italy on 2006.

3rd Place Play Off;

The 3rd place play off is often regarded as a more open and entertaining match as the two teams have alot less to loose than the finalists. The Germany V Uruguay game should provide a solid match with the Germans aiming to come away with 3rd place after a very promising tournament.

2010 World Cup Final Tickets

According to the interactive ticket table on the Fifa website; https://lmsfwctickets.fifa.com/LMS/MatchAvailability.aspx there are still tickets available for the semi final in Durban and also the 3rd/4th place play off match on Saturday night in Port Elizabeth at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

If you are interested in the semi final tickets you will need to be at the official ticketing office in Durban in order to purchase it as all online transactions for this match would now be closed.

According to Fifa there are no tickets available for the final!

Netherlands 3 – 2 Uruguay

The Netherlands march on to the final which will be held in Johannesburg at the soccer city stadium on Sunday 11th July.

The Netherlands saw off a good Uruguay team who provided a good challenge to the Dutch side who will meet the winners of the second Semi Final to be played out between Germany and Spain in Durban.

Cape Town Semi Final Uruguay V Netherlands

The Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez has put together a plan of action to stop star Netherlands play maker Robben;

Sebastian Abreu the man who finnished off Ghana in the penalty shoot out, said: “Tabarez has been talking to us about Robben and how to stop a player like him. But it’s always different when you are on the field. So we know how to do it but whether the actual execution actually comes off is another thing.”

“Tabarez has asked us to concentrate fully, not just in the matches, but also in training,” added Abreu. “He is very satisfied with our work. Looking at the Dutch, we have watched a lot of videos on their team because we don’t know too much about them. The Netherlands and Uruguay play very similar football but they have very good potential in their attack, with very clever players like [Wesley] Sneijder and Robben.”

Germany Destroy Argentina

Germany destroyed a dismal Argentina side 4 – 0 at the Cape Town stadium;

Rampant Germany

All four goals were well worked and highlighted Germanys technical advantage over Argentina, Thomas Mueller in the 3rd minute Miroslav Klose in the 68th and then in the 89th and Arne Friedich in the 74th.

The 32 year old Miroslav Klose now has 14 goals scored during his World Cup carea one away from all time goal scorer Ronaldo from Brazil – with another two possible games for the German he may go down as the greatest World Cup goal scorer of all time.
