The casualty list is growing and the World Cup has not even begun!
Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba has potentially fractured his elbow and now there is a very real chance he may not take part in the world cup. The Chelsea striker, and Captain for the Ivory Coast, picked up the injury 16 minutes into his side’s 2-0 friendly win over Japan after clashing with defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka.
But Ivory Coast coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said there was still a chance Drogba could feature in South Africa.
“We are not sure yet, we think it’s still a possibility,” he said. “It’s an elbow injury. How bad it is, I don’t know. He had a lot of pain. Of course I’m worried. He’s captain and one of the world’s best players.”
England captain Rio Ferdinand is out of the World Cup after a strong challenge with striker Emile Heskey during Friday’s first training session. He was rushed to hospital where he had a scan and was seen later on crutches as he left!

If Ferdinand is ruled out of the world cup then Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard will step into the captain’s role to lead the English side out.
Fabio Capello, the English manager said “The bad news is in the last moment of the training, Rio suffered a problem with the knee… It was a normal tackle. He turned and then he had a problem. He has gone to hospital and we will have to wait for the scan.”
Ferdinand is seeking a second opinion, but a Football Association source has told the BBC “it’s not looking good”.
